BIOGRAPHY
Loop Theory, born Ernest Jan Vincent Munoz also called by his friends as "JV" is more than just a musician. He is also a visual artist, music photographer, a sculptor, and an entrepreneur. He started dabbling and exploring various genres of music as a solo artist in 1998. He explored and taught himself producing and arranging his own music because of the urge and desire to continuously express his ideas and thoughts. During his early years as a budding musical artist, he released and distributed his music across the globe via the world wide web. The internet gave him a chance to be exposed to different genres and met other local independent artists as well as musicians and DJs from various countries. He was also one of the first generation of electronica artists to emerge locally along with other Filipino musicians and producers under the collective group known as Electronica Manila along with other artists like Rubber Inc, Silverfilter, Wolfmann, Moon Fear Moon, Morse, Neon8, MicFreak, and Acid42. He released an album under the name "Makkina" with "Blissful E.P." followed by his debut appearance as Cardinal Zen, he also released his album "Floppy Pillows" under the netlabel QED Records.
Year 2006 when he gained recognition as a downtempo & chillout artist under the name "Cardinal Zen" when his single "Far From Home" released on the prestigious compilation CD 'Cafe Del Mar Dreams Vol. 4' from the prominent recording outfit Cafe Del Mar Music in Madrid, Spain. He was the first Filipino artist to be included in a major label chillout compilation album. He also collaborated with Japanese abstract hip-hop artist "MC Shanti" a.k.a Dai Sato from Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan and together they released a the single "Jinsoku" via iTunes and Amazon MP3 under the Japanese independent label Adope Recordings.
In 2009, Jv continues to evolve and experimented with various styles of music and aimed in pursuing his craft as "Loop Theory". He dipped into instrumental hip-hop, dubstep, jungle, artcore, and downtempo. "This is Old School E.P." was released in 2010 as a free album under the Creative Commons license on NXT Phage, an independent record label based in the Philippines that is geared towards pursuing an underground electronic movement of Filipino composers, DJs and producers.
Year 2011, Loop Theory released a 3-song album with the local independent label extraordinaire Deeper Manila Records entitled "Dreamcatcher E.P." and now his album is steadily gaining attention among the local listeners and fellow musicians as well. His distinctive style of downtempo and triphop is currently making a mark in the local independent music scene.
Loop Theory keeps on moving forward with this music by collaborating with new breed of independent artists from all over the world and he is playing at various events, venues, and music festivals as well. He is also involved in sound design, composing original music for independent films, advertising, video games, and various forms interactive multimedia.
